DEER CAMP QUESTION

Post  PJC on Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:02 pm

How many is a good number for a deer camp?
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,
I guess a lot depends on the accomodations and the size of the property.
I would say somewhere between 4-6 guys. More hands make light camp work.
More stories and celebrations when somebody is successful.

3-4 guys.we usualyy post a couple guys in stands at certain posisitions and have one guy out walking around just to make a little noise and keep the deer moving.the fellas that get into the stands due a hour or so before daybreak and right after the sun starts to show itself our walker starts making his way down throgh the fields and into the deep guuly of thick woods and we usually get a fair number to jump and scatter so our stands are usually right off well worn game trails.seems one of us bags a nice fat doe everyyear.but if i am after them monter horns i usually go out alone because them old bucks can smell if there are a few fellas out in there woods and they wont move around till late morning if they dont think something is rightthey know and with them it is a game of patience,

deer camp

I think that if there are a lot of hunters it limits the ability to get bucks and here in Utah the season is only a week long and we get one buck and that is it. no does, we have to put in seperate for does and I havn't drawn a doe tag in a while. Me and one buddy are usually it, but mostly because we are the only people we know close to where we live who want to do the hunt completely primitive. It sure makes for a fun time and Even if only one of us is successful we always split the meat- it is a fun time. I think a lot depends on your game habits and hunting conditions as well as terrain.

knappinman.
I think you are right. Conventional 30/30 type of deer camp can squeeze and extra guy or two and its no big deal. Get too many guys in a longrifle camp and it takes away from the general purpose. I think anywhere from 3-6 depending on the facilities of course. Splitting up the venison at the end of the hunt was something I assumed would happen but other guys might have different ideas.
