I'd be in, for sure. Obvious suggestion is anywhere with a specific BP only season, not requiring a lottery draw.

I have access to a piece of land in the Westport area that would probably be good, but only on a lease so not sure if building a camp would be feasible. I already inquired with the owner about buying the land, so he knows my name is "in the hat". May never happen though, as he's got 3 children. I've been looking to buy land for a while now, but just can't seem to find the right piece.

Unless it is a really big piece of property, I'd keep the group small. I don't think deer drives are a good way to hunt with a ML, so in stand hunting or still hunting you need sufficient space. Plus, smaller groups are easier to manage. You can always permit guests.

I looked at a 260 acre parcel earlier this week. An old farmstead - mix of fields, bush and duck marsh. Pretty reasonable price for the acreage, so after a couple of sleeps I got it into my head that maybe this was the land for me. I started picturing a comfy little camp on it, some food plots, and some great hunts there, so I called to get a map of the place only to find out there is already an offer on it. Mad

Nope... just followed up with the agent and he confirmed the conditions were met and the property sold. Oh well - I believe everything happens for a reason and so that land wasn't meat to be mine. Still waiting for "my" land to come along.

I have a potential spot located. In ZONE 80.
Lots of BIG TIMBER. It has a small primative cabin that could be rented.
I am thinking anywhere from 2 to a max of 4 people.
I think the cabin has a wood stove but not much more.
No legtricity. Water close by.
I will have to investigate some more.
It is likely too late for this season but it all has to start someplace.

I agree. May not hunt it this year, but at least you get to look at it during hunting season.

I am heading about 1/2 hour north to look at a 202 acre piece tomorrow. Lots of deer and some turkeys in the area, I believe. Was apparantly selectively logged of some large white pine, but the hardwoods were left. We'll see.

Well, the property looked pretty good. A large (est. 40 acre) marsh at the rear, some other ponds and wet areas but a good amount of mixed bush. Seems to be plenty of decent sized oaks and beaches. Saw some deer trails. There is also hydro at the front of the propertyy, so it would be pretty easy to build a small camp at the front and have power. Problem is the land is so far on backroads it's 45 minutes from home and 20 minutes from the closest town. Probably would be a great piece of land for deer hunting, but I'm terribly undecided.

Are there any farms with crops adjacent to the property?
Are there any hilly areas or mostly flat.
Any streams with good water?

Hi Pat -

No, no farms near the property...
the property is somewhat hilly - all pretty typically "edge of the shield" terrain...
there are some swampy areas and ponds, but no notable streams of rivers nearby...

I have made up my mind to pass on this piece. A nice size and a good price, but just too much compromise on what I am really hoping to find. So the search goes on...
