I have a .54 Lyman GPR caplock that I built. It's what got me started in muzzleloading. If I can stop making horns for awhile, I start building a .45 Gilespie flintlock.

My trusty Caywood Type "C" fusil in .62 has accounted for 1/2 doz.gobblers and about as many geese. I'm hoping to bag a deer with it this fall.

I also have a T/C New Englander with both a 12ga. and .50cal. barrel. The 12 has taken a few gobblers and some geese. The .50 brought home my first blackpowder deer last fall. A nice fat doe - delicious!

Horner, sounds like were in the same boat! been shooting a couple different TC's and a Traditions last couple years, have a 54 full stock plains rifle with an L&R lock and a Bill Large barrel that I built under the tutledge of Dave Dolliver sitting in the corner needing some scraping and final finish to parts and wood, if I could learn to say no to taking orders for pouches and horns, I might actually ge to finishing it up and start to shoot it on a regular basis!

Here's a couple of pics of my GPR "Old Friend" that I thought I'd post.

As I mentioned above, this was my introduction to muzzleloading. "Old Friend" and I have had some good times, and I hope to take deer with it this season.

Re: who shoots what!!
I cut that star from german silver stock after sketching what I wanted out. Used brass brads to "hold" the inlay in, and brass wire accents around it. I learned a lot from doing this, mostly learned next time to buy already cast inlays...

Re: who shoots what!!
Horner - that is a very nice looking GPR. The star really makes it your own, and looks great. Did your lock plate have the typical scroll-work when you got it, or did it come smooth like that. I always thought the Lymans had scroll-work (which I can't say I care for) but that smooth plate looks great. I keep "himming and hawing" over a .54 GPR flinter.
lew - I have only shot the one deer with BP, so you've seen all I can offer on venison pictures. LOL. If you want more turkey pics, I can provide that. Maybe I'll start a dead bird thread on the small game forum.

Baron,
The lockplate was smooth and color cased hardened. I used naval jelly to remove the coloring. I believe that the flinklock GPRs have the scroll work on the lockplates.

I haven't been doing much shooting this year, due to poverty, but I have a 1770s era Lancaster w/ a 44 inch "B" weight Getz barrel in .50, Siler lock, maple stock, and sliding wooden box. I am currently working on another flintlock - an early Southern rifle using a mixture of "recycled" German rifle and English fowler furniture w/ a roundfaced English lock and a 44" barrel in .54.
